Benefitting the MDA - Providing research to a cure & services for those with ALS! My name is Daniel Tracy and in May of 2010, I was diagnosed with ALS. ALS is a serious neurological disease that causes muscle weakness, disability and quickly affects your ability to control the muscles needed to move, speak, eat and breathe, causing death within 2 to 5 years. As one who suffers from this debilitating illness, I know firsthand that as difficult as it is to persevere against such a formidable foe, it is much worse to have to do it without support – both psychological and financial. It is estimated that people with ALS will require $250,000-$350,000 a year beyond the second year of diagnosis to prolong their survival time, which the MDA will assist them with. In addition, the MDA has made great efforts to support research efforts to better understand ALS and work towards a cure.
